Ever
have one of those days where everything seems to go right –
where your mind is clear, you move with purpose and life feels
effortless?
Of course you have. That’s the phenomenon of flow, and it’s the essential ingredient for optimal performance, productivity, full engagement and, ultimately, happiness.
I believe that everyone has the capacity to live and work in the flow
whenever they like – they just have to know how to get there.
Now, you may not be waking up with the 3 a.m. sweats thinking,
“I need to get in the flow.” However, flow is
precisely what you need if you:
- feel like you’re running in quicksand, chronically overwhelmed by how much you have to do
- feel like you’re in over your head and afraid you won’t be able to live up to expectations (both yours and others)
- are easily distracted, struggle to stay focused and don’t remember things like you used to
- can’t escape the negative chatter of your inner critic
- find your work boring or tedious
- have low energy levels and can’t get motivated to take action
- feel stressed and out of control on a regular basis
- have trouble making decisions, sabotage yourself with self-doubt and crumble under pressure
In short, you’re not on top of your game.
Feels awful, doesn’t it? I know, I’ve been there:
from navigating the steep learning curve of a promotion or the chaos of
the dot-com environment to dealing with the cultural challenges of
working in a foreign country or the monotony of an administrative
grind, I know the agonizing feeling of not operating in high gear,
firing on all cylinders.
As a high-achiever, you may be thinking: “But
that’s just the way things are. Exceptional results
don’t come without stress, struggle and long hours of effort.
You can’t just make flow happen.”
True, most corporate cultures and environments are not conducive to
flow, I agree. Nevertheless, I discovered that I was intuitively able
to get into the flow, even under the most adverse circumstances because
-- through decades of practice and training as a martial artist and
concert pianist -- I had developed some very powerful mental muscles:
Focus. Discipline. Energy. Resilience. Poise under pressure. Courage. Self-control.
The exact same mental muscles that give the elite performers of the
world – whether in sports, performing arts or business
– their competitive edge
I’ve created the Top of Your Game Performance
System™ to help you do the same: develop the critical mental
muscles, so you can harness the power of flow and achieve optimal
performance, productivity, full engagement (oh, and happiness).
